More on Sports Broadcasting and Racism

After five days of dithering, the Golf Channel has finally suspended commentator Kelly Tilghman for two weeks for her on-air comment January 4, suggesting young players looking to break into the game should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley." At first Golf Channel officials blew off the controversy, saying that they had gotten very few complaints about Tilghman's appalling attempt to get a laugh.
It is our humble opinion that suggesting "lynching" on-air; even in jest, is much more offensive than Don Imus' or Jimmy 'the Greeks' unsavory comments ...and displays not only a serious flaw in judgment, but exposes a deep-seeded racism. Two week suspension? Now, THAT IS a joke!
Furthermore, some news organizations seem to believe racism belongs...check out these appalling headlines:
FOXSports.com: 'Lynch' controversy is totally overblown
MSNBC: 'Lynch Tiger' wasn't worth suspension
CNN: Tiger OK with 'lynch' remark, but Sharpton ready for battle
Associated Content: Does Kelly Tilghman Really Need to Be Suspended for Her "Racist ...
Sun-Sentinel.com: Tilghman doesn't deserve to be fired
Ventura County Star: Tilghman's punishment more than enough
