Trouble at CBS

Chima (shee-MAH') Simone is no longer in the "Big Brother" house.

CBS said Saturday that producers removed the 32-year-old freelance journalist from the voyeuristic reality series for breaking the show's rules.

The network also says Simone, from West Hollywood, Calif., will not be part of the jury that selects the $500,000 grand prize winner.

Chima threw a mic pack and battery into the hot tub and refused to put it back on.

Mike: Hey Guys, can you all come into the Living Room please? We need to have a house meeting.

.... ... they speak .... ....

Allison Grodner: You will be paying for the mic pack Chima, this will come out your Stipend.

Chima: You know what? ***** this *****. I'm outta here. love you, nat--you too Lydia. *throws something* (her mic?)

She presses the diary room button, it doesn't go green, she tries to pull the door open (EVERYONE is in the living room sitting down btw) and Chima says "don't ***** with me, open this damn door. NOW!"

Then Nat and Lydia want to leave with her, but production asks them to remain a moment..

Allison Grodner: Everyone, PLEASE calm down!

Lydia gets up and tries to open the DR door, bangs on it, crying.

Chima was SCREAMING at Allison Grodner! The entire control room was told to record everything in case something happened. Security was there too.

Chima removed.

Who is Allison Grodner?

Allison Grodner is an award-winning director, producer and writer, who has worked in documentary and reality-based programming for the past fifteen years. She is best known for her work on the American version of the reality TV show Big Brother. She is an executive producer of Big Brother and Big Brother: After Dark.

'Let's Make a Deal' Replacing 'The Guiding Light'?

CBS weighs its options on a possible replacement for "Guiding Light."
According to Variety, CBS will film a pilot for "Let's Make a Deal" later this month for viewing by the network brass. If things go well, the search for a host will get underway and another pilot will be shot. Original "Deal" emcee Monty Hall (shown above) is said to have been consulting in the process by meeting with potential hosts, which is reported to include some big names.

Sarah Can't Name Any Newspapers Or Magazines She Reads
On September 29, 2008 CBS aired one of the many parts of an interview Katie Couric did with Sarah Palin. In this particular installment, Couric asked "what newspapers and magazines did [she] regularly read..." and Palin responded by saying: "I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media." Couric pushed further asking "what ones specifically?" and Pain said, "Umm... all of them. Any of them that have been in front of me over all these years."

The Coverage

Here's how the networks and cable will cover the Michael Jackson service, via TVNewser:

• ABC: Charlie Gibson will anchor live coverage "Remembering Michael Jackson" at 1pmET, joined by "Nightline" anchor Martin Bashir. Some updates: Diane Sawyer, in NY, and Barbara Walters, at the Staples Center, will co-anchor a special edition of "20/20" at 9pmET. Sawyer and Elizabeth Vargas will also co-anchor "Primetime: Family Secrets," a report on Michael Jackson's children at 10pmET. Cynthia McFadden will also anchor "Nightline" from the Staples Center.
• CBS: Maggie Rodriguez and Harry Smith will anchor the "Early Show" from the Staples Center tomorrow. Katie Couric will anchor special coverage of the memorial at 1pmET and the CBS "Evening News" from the Staples Center. Couric will also do "48 Hours" at 10pmET.
• NBC/MSNBC: NBC will televise the memorial service at 1pmET, anchored by Brian Williams. Chris Jansing will anchor MSNBC's live coverage. Meredith Vieira will broadcast live tomorrow at the Staples Center for "Today" and Williams will anchor "Nightly News" from LA Tuesday.
• CNN: Anderson Cooper, Larry King, Don Lemon and Soledad O'Brien will host coverage live from LA, with Campbell Brown and Roland Martin anchoring live from New York, starting at NoonET on CNN and simulcast on CNN International.
• HLN: Robin Meade, A.J. Hammer and Jane Velez-Mitchell will anchor live coverage for HLN.
• Fox: Shepard Smith will anchor live coverage of the memorial service on Fox News starting at 1pmET. Megyn Kelly will anchor live coverage of the memorial on FOX broadcast also beginning at 1pmET. Greta Van Susteren will also be in LA on Tuesday, and will host her show from there Tuesday night.

No word if the Home Shopping Network, the Disney Channel, QVC or Nickelodeon will be breaking from their regular broadcast schedules yet...

Basically it'll be the opposite of the Billy Mays coverage...

CBS walls off neighborhood for TV Series...

In many TV shows and films, suburbia is symbolized as a prison of surface homogeneity, over-fertilized green lawns, gas-guzzling SUVs and kids on swing sets.
CBS is about to shoot a reality show tentatively called “Block Party” in Kennesaw, Georgia that literally turns suburbia… into a prison. Earlier this month, the network built 2,000 feet of stark 20-foot tall walls around eight homes in a Kennesaw subdivision, walls that resemble the outside of a maximum-security penitentiary.

Shaming Marriage

Fox is developing a wedding reality series where brides-to-be don’t meet their husbands until they exchange vows.
In “I Married a Stranger,” a woman frustrated by the dating scene agrees to marry a man she’s never met. While she prepares for a blind wedding, friends and family are shown selecting a spouse from a pool of six eligible suitors offered by producers. The men are eliminated one by one until only two candidates remain. Both finalists walk down the aisle, but only one makes it to the altar to reveal himself to his new wife.
Fox has shot a pilot for "Stranger," which is said to be in strong contention for a series order. If Fox picks up the show, "Stranger" will have some conceptual competition: CBS has a similar series, "Arranged Marriage," planned for midseason.

Wolfram Research founder Stephen Wolfram publicly debuted his company's online "computational knowledge engine".
The Wolfram Alpha engine is a Web service designed to process data from controlled, vetted sources of data -- many not on the Web -- then present the results in a way that lets people dig deeper into the subject. It's something of a cross between a graphing calculator, repositories of scientific data, and a system to interpret questions posed in human terms.
For example, people can ask about the molecular weight of caffeine, about the location of a gene in the human genome, the number of people named Andrew born in a particular year, the amount of fish produced in France, the life expectancy of 40-year-olds, and the performance of Microsoft stock -- and then dig into the results.

Pageant Paid for Prejean's Boobs

Carrie Prejean, whose comments opposing same-sex marriage during last month's Miss USA pageant still have tongues wagging, had breast augmentation surgery just weeks before that competition, Miss California Pageant Co-Director Keith Lewis confirmed on CBS's The Early Show Friday. He also said reports that the Miss California pageant helped foot the bill for the operation were true.

Judge Blocks Richard Hatch's Argentina Request

A federal judge has rejected "Survivor" winner Richard Hatch's request to live in Argentina after he's released from prison on a tax evasion conviction.
Hatch is imprisoned in West Virginia for failing to pay taxes on the $1 million prize he won on the hit CBS reality show's debut season.
Hatch is scheduled to be released next month and had asked a judge's permission to serve his period of supervised release in Argentina. His request was denied Monday.
He said he is married to an Argentine national whose family is unable to travel to the United States. He said he's stayed out of trouble in prison and has a right to pursue business opportunities in South America.
Hatch, who was sentenced to four years and three months in prison, last month asked a judge to free him immediately.
He argued that he was innocent, represented by ineffective lawyers and that a judge improperly calculated his prison sentence. Federal prosecutors have not yet responded to his request.

CBS Turns Out the 'Guiding Light'

The soap opera "Guiding Light" is switching off after a 72-year run that predates television.
CBS says the show will have its final episode in September. Like most daytime dramas, "Guiding Light" has suffered from declining ratings and CBS is looking for a lower-cost alternative to the hour of programming.
The Guinness Book of World Records has cited it as the longest-running television drama, with more than 15,700 episodes airing.

Air traffic controllers at two airports and the center handling US Airways Flight 1549 after takeoff struggled furiously to get the crippled plane back to the ground, according to audio recordings released Thursday.

David Letterman's Mea Culpa

Wracked with guilt, David Letterman apologized profusely Friday night about censoring Bill Hicks 15 years earlier on The Late Show. "I'm sorry that I did it," he said several times. "It was a mistake... The decision was mine."
Letterman aired the censored five-minute standup segment from Oct. 1, 1993 and interviewed Hicks' mom Mary, who stated, "I will tell you it was a very hard time 15 years ago when that happened."
Letterman reportedly was offended by Hicks' Jesus jibe, but on the show he chose not to be specific, calling it "an error of judgement on my part. I made the decision I think born of insecurity more than anything else. I said I don't think we want to have that on the show. So we removed it from the show.
"Seeing it now raises the question, what was the matter with me?" Letterman went on. "What was I thinking? This says more about me as a guy than it says about Bill because there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's just perfect."
The Texan-born comic appeared on Late Night 11 times. "We always loved Bill," Letterman added. "He was tremendously funny with a great energy. We just got a big kick out of him." Hicks died of pancreatic cancer on February 26, 1994. He was 32.

Empathetic Dave

David Letterman, the CBS host who has competed with Jay Leno every weeknight for 15 years, now feels empathy for his late-night challenger.
In an interview with Rolling Stone on newsstands this week, Mr. Letterman, the longtime “Late Show” host, expresses bewilderment about NBC's decision to replace Mr. Leno next year.
“Unless I’m misunderstanding something, I don’t know why, after the job Jay has done for them, why they would relinquish that,” Mr. Letterman said in the interview. “I guess they thought it was a less messy way to handle what happened to me at NBC. I don’t know.”
Mr. Letterman famously moved from NBC to CBS in 1993 after Mr. Leno replaced Johnny Carson on NBC’s “Tonight” show, establishing one of the foremost rivalries on television which was documented in the book "The Late Shift"
