On the face of it, it's a strange example of product synergy, but Bob Dylan lending his song "Beyond Here Lies Nothing" for a new promo for the upcoming second season of True Blood makes perfect sense. Dylan's latest album, Together Through Life, just came out, and his fans have a certain amount of blood lust, so it's a win/win, right?

Sykes Out Late at Night

It looks like coming out of the closet during November's Prop. 8 protests hasn't hurt Wanda Sykes' career. The wickedly funny -- now out -- lesbian landed her own Fox show.
The hour-long talk show, modeled similarly to Bill Maher's HBO show, would air at 11 p.m. on Saturdays and fill the gap left by MadTV, which was recently canceled.

Polanski Pleads his Case

Thirty years after he became a fugitive to avoid a prison sentence for having sex with a teenager, Academy Award-winning director Roman Polanski asked a judge Tuesday to dismiss the case.
In the motion filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, lawyers for Polanski alleged "repeated, unlawful and unethical misconduct" by a prosecutor and the trial judge and requested that the charge which prompted him to flee the country be dropped "in the interests of justice."
The request to dismiss the charge, which took court officials and prosecutors by surprise, is based on revelations in a documentary broadcast in June on HBO. The film, "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired," portrayed the legal proceeding as hopelessly tainted by backroom dealings between a vindictive judge and a deputy district attorney meddling in his colleagues' case.

Case of the Kissing Boxer

On Saturday night at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California, Jesse Vargas was in the ring against Trenton Titsworth in a junior welterweight bout featured on HBO's Boxing After Dark program. Titsworth had two points deducted after kissing Vargas on the neck. Vargas won in a unanimous decision 39-34.
