"GQ" PUBLISHER WISHES THAT LINDSAY LOHAN WAS THREE MONTHS OLDER
Three months and two days to be precise, for it will be on July 2 that the actress turns 21 and is legally able to buy a drink. Assuming press accounts are correct, that has not
stopped Lohan before, and it did not stop Gentlemen's Quarterly editor-in-chief (since June 2004) Jim Nelson from putting an "underage" Lohan on the cover of April's Love, Sex, and Madness issue. Problem for Hunsinger (whose GQ tenure is almost concurrent with Nelson's) is that Lohan being a "minor" is a potential problem for liquor advertisers. "I let them know, and most switched to other issues," he says. (Grey Goose [vodka] and Silver Patrón [tequila] are two that stayed.) "I can't disagree with Jim putting Lindsay on the cover--she epitomizes Love, Sex, and Madness--even if it did make the work of our sales staff harder," and successful, with April 2007's 146 ad pages 6½ greater than April 2006 (+4.7%).

Lohan's "text message" interview made GQ correspondent Marshall Sella's work harder. Washington Post Magazine Reader critic Peter Carlson wrote (April 3) that "it generated just enough copy to give GQ an excuse to make it a cover story and run five pages of Lohan without too many clothes on."
