Rhetorical Racism Forces Resignation

Los Alamitos, California Mayor Dean Grose has announced that he will be stepping down from his position on March 2, after sending an “e-mail picture depicting the White House lawn planted with watermelons under the title ‘No Easter egg hunt this year.’”
Obama jokes are a continuation in a long line of lampooning, satirizing, and ridiculing a politician/president.
But racism has a way of creeping into everything in America, and jokes are not an exception. It is not too difficult to find an Obama joke that in some way denigrates or derides the fact that his most superficial characteristic is a genetic inheritance from his African ancestors. In other words, he's dark-skinned and wide open for stereotyping.
