Bears, Bees, Bats & Frogs become Canaries in a Coalmine
First it was frogs. Then it was bees. Now it’s bats that are mysteriously dying. Whether the cause is tied to global climate change or not, something is clearly wrong. Bellwether species are in precipitous decline, and as they falter, the ripples spread throughout the ecosystem. Inevitably, they will reach humanity; indeed, the bees’ disappearance is already threatening agricultural productivity. If the natural environment collapses, industrial society will go with it, either destroyed or transformed — and not for the better.
