Who Killed Laura Palmer?

In 1990, while many of you were tuning in to "Cheers," "The Cosby Show" and "Murder, She Wrote," there was a television revolution going on at ABC. The breakthrough show would be the brainchild of a cult filmmaker who had been referred to by Mel Brooks as "Jimmy Stewart from Mars."

"Twin Peaks" was the series, and David Lynch (with Mark Frost) was the creator and presiding genius.

A newly released 10-disc DVD box, "Twin Peaks: The Definitive Gold Box Edition," offers the series' two seasons, two versions of the pilot, a huge batch of extras and deleted scenes. The set is a reminder of how completely some movies and TV shows can be absorbed into pop culture - the program has been imitated and parodied so often that it takes an effort to remember what a milestone it was.
