Hoop Dreams

Jesca Hoop is a striking, dark-haired woman from Northern California who writes and sings twisty, sprawling, lyrically abstract songs, featuring strange sonorities and offbeat rhythms. Her music sounds as if it comes from an imaginary country, and she sings in the accented English of someone from that country.
Jesca Hoop grew up in a musical family, and then spent years as a nanny for another musical family: that of Tom Waits.
Hoop describes her songs as having a wardrobe around them and she uses diverse sonic building blocks to construct the songs on her latest album Kismet.
