XXX Domain

It looks like we’re still going to have to surf for web porn the old fashioned way — the .XXX top level domain proposal has been shot down by ICANN once again.

The Board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) today voted to reject the .XXX sponsored Top Level Domain (sTLD) application from ICM Registry, Inc.

“This decision was the result of very careful scrutiny and consideration of all the arguments. That consideration has led a majority of the Board to believe that the proposal should be rejected” said Dr Vint Cerf, Chairman of ICANN.

“I thank my fellow Board members and the community for their input”. Dr Cerf said. A copy of the resolution from the Board meeting is available here.

The proposal was denied by nine votes to five, with one abstention. It was the 3rd time the board had rejected to idea since it was suggested nearly seven years ago.

“We are extremely disappointed by the board’s action today,” stated Stuart Lawley, ICM’s president and chief executive.
